First Post, Doumbeks, and Bad Puns.

Posted by jbeardfoto - December 15th, 2009

Being that this is my first post on my new shiny blog, I figured a drum roll was appropriate. (Get it?? she plays a doumbek. Yeah whatevs..).

If you haven’t gotten the chance to hear Raquy and the cavemen before, then do it. Raquy Danziger is one of the top currently-touring doumbek players in the world. She’s also no slouch with the kamancheh. I saw her last year, and when I found out the group was coming back to Columbia, I got on the line (well, the facebook) and offered to set up a portrait session with them.

Being musicians, their arrival time shifted back to about an hour past my scheduled time with them, leaving me with literally zero time to shoot. After begging, pleading, and sobbing like a little girl to stage host and director of the Delirium Tribal Belly Dance Company, Natalie Brown, I was able to squeeze in about 15 minutes to do the entire shoot, and was really happy with the results considering the time constraints.

Check out Raquy and the Cavemen on their site: www.raquy.com ( Oh who took that great live picture of her on her site from last year’s show? Hmmm…)
